History of the PWL
The PWL was founded in 2009 by Jackson Bruce and Joel Jochim. The league originally consisted of four teams, The Batborne being the first. The other three were The Scrubs, The Spumoni, and The Chimps. The Crusaders came along midway through the season. The Scrubs were the first PWL champions after beating The Batborne 24-18 in extra innings to win the David N. Mullany Cups.
In 2010 the league expanded to eight teams. The Trojans, Chuggin' Slugs and Reapers were introduced into the league. Every team had their own home field except the Wandering Trojans. Scrubs beat Batborne 19-11 to win the Cups again. The first All Star game was played at Madison Field, home of the Batborne and Chimps.
In 2011, the Spumoni changed their name to the Lumberjax and the Mighty Buffalo became the 9th PWL franchise. The Holy Ball Whackers became the 10th team. The Draft was held April 17th and the Chuggin' Slugs picked Connor Berg with the first pick. A lockout shortened, then cancelled the season. No champion was crowned.
In 2012, the league contracted to four teams, Batborne, Scrubs, Lumberjax and Creepers. The lockout was stopped.
